Telefund - FAQ
Is Telefund telemarketing?
No. Calling U-M alumni is one part of maintaining connections and building relationships with the university. Telefund updates contact information, answers questions, has interesting conversations, and hopes to secure financial support for the university as well. In contrast, telemarketing is treated as a transaction.
Who does Telefund contact?
We reach out to alumni and friends of U-M who have relationships with the university. For instance, one day we call a U-M graduate. Another day may be a parent of a current student, or someone who support the arts or Michigan Medicine. Each alumnus or friend has a unique set of experiences, and the best part of working at Telefund is hearing their stories.
What gifts does Telefund ask for?
Michigan Telefund fundraises for a variety of programs. For example, we have raised money for scholarships, academic and research programs, unpaid internships, and many of the great resources available on campus such as the Museum of Art and the University Libraries. Our alumni and friends have many different interests across campus, and we strive to meet their desire to make a positive impact on their campus.
What makes Telefund successful?
Telefund helps students become successful through personal and professional development. We support a positive and community-focused work environment to foster success on the job. Telefund is successful every time a student speaks with someone, whether or not they make a donation. The conversations build relationships and give the students a learning opportunity.
Are Telefund Student Fundraisers trained?
Before they begin working, team members complete two comprehensive orientation sessions that help them understand the Telefund culture and equip them with necessary job techniques. Team members also participate in multiple professional development trainings throughout the year.
